Are You a Witness?
October 19, 2004 • By Denise G. Hanney
It's 7:00 am.
If you have already rolled out of bed, you are probably plowing through your closet looking for something to wear or making lunch for the children whom, to your dismay, "forgot" to do a homework assignment. You are trying to figure out how to get this assignment done before the school bus arrives while your child is eating breakfast and you are reminding your significant other to pick up the clothes at the cleaners. As you scurry out of the door with one shoe half on and checking to see if you have money in your wallet, you immediately draw your attention to your work load as you drive or ride to work.
Does all of this sound somewhat familiar? Well, guess what? You missed being a vital witness to the Glory of your Heavenly Father.
Let's play the morning back:
You wake up at 6:00am.
You witness the life force of air entering your lungs as you thank God for waking you up. As you make a decision that this is going to be a glorious day, you leisurely stretch and/or workout for 1/2 hour witnessing how wonderfully your body responds to your every move. As you kiss your child and/or your significant other awake gently, you witness their gentle response as you thank God for them.
Since your outfit for the day was carefully picked 1/2 hour before you went to bed, this allows you to have enough time to make breakfast for everyone and sit with yourself and/or your family in a calm and peaceful environment, thus, witnessing the birds singing, music,
maybe a gentle morning rain or how cute your child looks chewing.
Homework not done? There's still time to either write a note to the teacher assuring him or her that the assignment will be made up or right after breakfast pulling it together, ending it with a kiss on your child's forehead and sending her or him off to school feeling loved.
You have left a small note that says "Good Morning, Sweetheart - Please do not forget to pick up the clothes from the cleaners - I love you" tucked in his jacket pocket slightly so that he can see it, written right before breakfast.
You are dressed and prepared and as you close your front door on your way to work, you witness that large tree in front of your home that has dew that makes the leaves glisten.
Easier said than done? It can be done. Prioritize what is important to you.
You Are Now The Vital Witness to the Glory of God!
