What are the guidelines for Hiyaah Power Girls eMentoring Program?
GENERAL GUIDELINES for ALL PARTICIPANTS
1) All e-mail correspondence will be sent securely through the Hiyaaah Power Girls domain. Upon registration, both mentors and students will receive account information to access their emails. These addresses are not to be shared with anyone outside of the program. Each participant is asked to contribute either a question, response, or announcement to the community digest at least one time each month.
2) List manager will remove all individual e-mail addresses and last names of students to protect privacy. Please note that emails are monitored and archived to protect the privacy and security of all participants.
3) Students and mentors will receive a digest of messages that is open dialogue for all Hiyaah Power Girls participants. This digest is sent directly to your e-mail address.
4) All participants are encouraged to check the web page (http://www.HPGirls.org) to see biographies of select mentors,learn about scholarship opportunities, academic resources and more.
5) Each participant is asked to join Hiyaah Power Girls for one year with an option to continue. All participation is voluntary and there is no penalty if you decide to drop out of Hiyaah Power Girls.
6) There is no fee to participate in Hiyaah Power Girls for students. Mentors are responsible for the $25 background check (tax-deductible) to participate in the program.
STUDENT GUIDELINES
1) Most students are female, ages 13-18. Our target group is female because that is the focus of the Hiyaah Power Inc.
2) Students must have a direct affiliation with a sponsoring organization such as their school clubs, their church, a Boys and Girls Club, or the YWCA.
3) Students must commit to reading their emails at least twice per week and sending a message to the community at least once per month.
4) Students must be willing to connect via e-mail with mentors in various industries and career fields. All questions about education and career decisions, peer pressure and concerns about classes, challenges, and future opportunities are welcome.
5) Students should refrain from asking questions related to homework assignments. Our mentors are here to provide guidance and advice from a trusted resource. We trust you to do your own homework!
SPONSORING ORGANIZATION GUIDELINES
(Examples of sponsoring organizations are school clubs, women's ministries, YWCA, or Girl Scout Councils)
1) Sponsoring organizations must have a commitment to expanding the opportunities for young women and girls and fostering an increase sense of self through positive relationships with dynamic women.
2) Sponsoring organizations must provide weekly access to e-mail for the student participants (if not available at home) and encourage participation in Hiyaah Power Girls dialogue and regional mentoring events.
3) Sponsoring organization should be able to recruit at least five student representatives from their organization to participate in Hiyaah Power Girls. Organizations with 15 students or more are eligible to sit on the Leadership Council
4) Sponsoring organization is responsible for making sure that each student submits an application, along with parental permission forms.
MENTOR GUIDELINES
1) Mentors will be women in various careers and must show a commitment to expanding the opportunities for young women and girls in education, personal and professional development.
2) Mentors will provide a brief biography to be included on the Hiyaah Power Girls web site.
3) Mentors must be willing to check their HPMentors.org email accounts for questions and comments that may match their field of expertise. Mentors should be willing to provide feedback when topics touch upon their area of expertise or when special insight from life experience is applicable.
4) Mentors should not promote specific companies or initiatives that reflect a potential conflict of interest. All mentoring should highlight the benefits of personal and professional development in general.
5) Mentors should expect to read and respond to their emails from assigned students Digests at twice per week and comment once per month in Hiyaah Power Girls community discussions.
6) All mentors and volunteers are subject to a criminal background investigation to protect the well being of all Hiyaah Power Girls participants.
